...perfumes of Arabia
"Here’s the smell of the blood still; all the perfumes of Arabia will not sweeten this little hand."
No this isn't a post about perfumes. It's all about that little quote above. For some reason I find myself fascinated everytime I recall it or come across it. I suppose deep down inside I find it as some source of pride :)

umm .. I dont want to break your bubble .. but do we really have something called: perfumes of Arabia?
The famous 3oud is from india, cambodia & thialand .. maybe its called perfumes of arabia because arabs love to use it :)
Don't worry Arabian Princess you didn't burst my bubble :) We certainly do have something called the perfumes of Arabia, and that term traces back to ancient history. It doesn't actually refer to the perfumes we use nowadays, be it alcoholic or concentrated oils. The quote is from William Shakespeare's Macbeth which also means the quote in itself isn't very recent.
Here are a couple of links I came across explaining what they meant by 'perfumes of Arabia':
The Perfumes of Arabia
Ancient Essense - The frankincense story
Surprisingly the second one had rather detailed history about the Sultanate's role in ancient trade.
Enjoy! :)
